Why do I write?
Over the years, I’ve been a voracious reader in many genres, both fiction and non-fiction, but I never thought about writing. I guess like most people, I didn’t think I could do it. The turning point was when I began to read more erotica. As any reader of the genre knows, the quality varies enormously, probably more than any other.
After a few books left me exasperated by their lack of imagination, their dire use of language, and their sheer banality, I threw one down, jokingly saying I could do better. The next day, I wondered if I could, and set myself the challenge. The result was the Kinky Companions series.
What do I write?
A great story comes first. I want to create something that draws my readers in and pulls them along, eager to know what happens next. All my books under this pen name contain erotic elements, some more than others. Sex is a part of life, can tell us a lot about a character and is, above all, fun. I feel it’s important not to hide it away.
My erotica works all feature a significant element of graphic sex, which is often a fundamental part of the story, and I’ll deal with a wide range of activities. The erotic content has to contribute to the story, although there will be times when I allow my characters to have some fun for its own sake.
Some are essentially romantic – the Kinky Companions series, for example. But others most definitely won’t be, although all will delve deeper than the purely physical, dealing with relationships on different levels.
Who do I write?
I tend to avoid stereotypes and the more popular tropes. Not because there is anything wrong with them, but there are many authors out there who can create such stories far better than me. Perhaps I like to challenge myself and my readers to enjoy something a little different.
So, in my erotica, you won’t find billionaires, step-relatives or cheerleaders. My characters tend to be unremarkable people; at least, to begin with. They will have flaws, they’re not perfect. They may be uncertain about their sexuality, needs and desires. They won’t always do what you expect – or want – them to do.
What won’t I write?
Some sexual topics are obvious: nothing non-consensual, and any characters indulging in sexual activity are explicitly over 18, and generally older and more mature than that. There will be other things I’m unlikely to write about; not because I find them distasteful, but because I don’t have the experience, knowledge or understanding to write about them convincingly.
